I was looking on the android market and found an app for MN Lake Finder. It seems to have most of the bells and whistles that the website has. I think I like it. It seems pretty easy to use. Lots of ways to search for lakes. I think it may be even more versatile than the website. Anyone else have it? If so what do you think. If you don't have it, check it out.

smile smiley smile smiley smile smiley It only makes sense... I've been sayin it and others too... there is no reason the phone can't be your GPS on the lake with the lake maps. catch a fish, hit a button and all the data records. Everything from barometric pressure and weather to coordinates of the catch, time and date. Then analytics tools to figure out when your good at catching them and when you need a change in strategy.

@MyFishingPals: The MN DNR now has an Android app for their LakeFinder. Been playing around with it all day. Even has depths. Check the Market #SWEEEET #MFP 18 Jan via web

It's pretty nice. I probably wouldn't plan a whole trip with it, but it will be nice when I have a rod in the car and want to try a new spot from shore. Can't use GPS within the app. Google Maps works fine enough for that though. When you're on the water, there's nothing but sky above; no obstructions. I can pick up 12 satellites and lock on to 7-10 with amazing accuracy. I'm actually running a custom ROM now and GPS is even better.

Does anyone else know of any good outdoor apps for hunting or fishing? I love using my phone for gathering good info.

I'd like to see someone try out Jimmy Houston's "Fish Notes" app. Dying to hear what a $13 fishing app gets you; because I ain't buying it to find out myself.

There is a free Waypoint app that I'll play around with this year though.

Thanks for the info daninthewoods. I just downloaded it and imagine I'll use it quite a bit.

How about a myfishingpals app? Don't know what it'd take, but it sure would be cool to take a pic with my phone and post it with a short message in real time.

I was thinking the same thing Monster, a my fishing pals app. would be great. Especially if you could take a photo while fishing and post it online, get advice while on the lake, the possibilities are endless.

The MN DNR app is quite nice. If you zoom in on a lake, you will see the gradations if they are available. I'll be out this weekend on the ice and will see if the gps on the phone works with the lake maps.

There is a fish identifier app that I found yesterday. It looked real nice.

I'm in the process of writing a fish identifier app just for MN. It's in beta stages now.

Monster and Dan,

If you have a smartphone with internet you should be able to post pics to MFP with your phone as is.

If you take a picture with your phone you should be able to upload it directly to a photohosting site (photobucket for example) and then using the link available from the hosting site you can then post it over at MFP. Its exactly the same process you use if you are sitting at a computer, its just done from your phone.

Perhaps an app could make it more streamlined but it should be possible without one.

I have built several upload functions for other sites that will get rid of the need to use Photbucket or other services out there... it'll upload directly to my server and display on the forum. The only reason I have not implemented it here is I am having trouble with the size of the photos. I would like to be able to keep them at 480 px max height or width at 72 dpi. Most of the photos people have been sending me to post are huge and need to be resized before I can add them.

I sure wish I had more time... been really busy lately... which is a good thing, I guess. smile smiley
