We are starting to see smaller house on the lake as the reccent cold snap helped freeze up alot of the slush we had on the lake. There could be areas of slush under deeper pockets of snow.
The are I fished tuesday eve measuered around 15 with the top 4 frozen snow/slush. The first thing I noticed was the water really looked dark so i suggested to Phil to try that area yesterday. He had good fishing landing 6 3 walleyes 2 perch and a small pike. For phil to catch 6 fish is great fishing in his book as he never has the best of luck. It will not be long now and we will be taking the houses out to start the season.

Thanks for the update. Can't wait to come up and do a little fishing. If you are able to pattern any hot colors or favorite jigs I'd love to hear your suggestions so I can stock up on the right stuff before I come up.

Be seeing you in a couple weeks.

We will be taking our first sleeper onto the ice today. Tonyboy rolled in last night to do some scouting/fishing. Steve may come up and spend the night in california.
If mother nature cooperates we hope to have all 6 sleepers on the lake by the end of the week. The ice is rough under the snow and the plow trucks blue thunder and the red baron are going to get one heck of a workout this year. I measured 14.5 inches of ice yesterday with a couple of inches of frozen slush.
from most reports fishing was not quite as good saturday as it was thursday and friday

The longer we wait the better. idaho has 4 single beds.Indoor biffy, electrcity, small microwave ,2 burner cooker, sink, 8 holes ,ceiling fan, carpeted, paneled. 2 tv's with satalite for all thoses up and coming football games. Its a steal at 200 a night
The fishing has started off pretty deccent with know one getting skunked. Phil came in with 2 last night and said he liked the spot we set up montana. Florida will be fished starting today. California has caught fish all week with jeff and his brother going home with 5 all caught during the day.
Utah has not been fished yet and is sitting on another spot that Tonyboy scouted out. Pat and his crew are in minnesota and had a couple. We will move them today if they want to try another spot. It takes about 2 hours to move but if thats waht they want I will be happy to move them.
i talked to two locals from Kellier and they had there 8. i saw them come accross the lake on ther sleds. Another local said he got 7.

The snow veries from next to none to a foot in areas. I have seen as little as 11 and as high as 17 inches. 11 was under some of that 11 inch snow and that was last week

My first customers that found me from fishpals are out fishing in Utah. Tom, Arron and Marvin. When I checked in on them last night they were having fresh fish for dinner. I also moved them yesterday I wanted them to fish utah the first day as this as where we caught are first and only elussive crappie this year.
I will be checking in with all the houses a bit later this morning. I think this is the only weekend That I have alll the houses rented.
Is it the economy? To far to drive. can not keep enough fish? Bad marketing on my part. Any one have a little feed back they could share

Ideas from the top of my head: Maybe they are good maybe not!

Maybe like an affiliate program or referral program could help...Use some incentives to get people to do marketing for you and to spread the word getting referrals. Let your clients know about it, I would be way more likely to really try and convince a friend to fish through Cookies if I knew I could get a free week night or something out of it! Not to sound greedy but...

I also know for me that seeing is believing so, put in your position, I think I would probably try to get as many pictures as possible and add them here, your blog page as well as other forums across the web and your website. Maybe hold a best fish contest and ask clients to snap pictures with there cell phones and text message them to your phone. Have a small prize at the end of the year for best pic! It'll probably get you some good pics for posting.. Later in the year text message the winner and email everyone letting them know they didn't win but maybe give them a little coupon for participating.

a hundred or two hundred dollars spent on facebook ads in the summer time would go a long way when targeting people in Minnesota who list ice fishing as a hobby or interest. The facebook ads are super targeted and can open up a lifetime communication between you and your target audience. Maybe start a fan page for your business, suggest for all your friends and ask them to suggest to there friends. Wait until summer time and spend some money on facebook advertising. I spent 10 bucks and ended up with over 400 fans on one of my pages. math would tell me that 100 bucks could result in a lot of fans (4000?). After getting fans you can post pics, comments or reports that will always show up on there pages right at the top! Remember that facebook has more visitors than google!

start an email news letter club might help but is kind of labor intensive unless you really enjoy computer time. On the plus side it is cheap to do and can keep your business on peoples minds. Maybe a few news letters per season just to keep people engaged. Maybe you do this stuff, I have no idea.

Maybe search google for some key phrases like "ice house rentals in Minnesota" or "MN ice house rentals for walleye fishing"... see what pages rank well with those terms and figure out if there is anyway to get a plug in for your business on those pages. Maybe by adding a comment or you can submit a link or something. Maybe some of them are sites like MFP and you can really get plugs in with report posting and pictures.

Location based phone applications like foursquare? That might be a stretch. Google places maybe for search ability?

Anyhow.... just some thoughts.

Good Luck!

Cookie, thanks for the hospitality this weekend all three of us had a great time.

Fishing was a little on the slow side but the morning bite was enough to keep us on our toes between the walleye and perch. In the end we had one heck of a fish dinner Saturday night which in my book makes it a very successful trip. Our final totals were 6 walleye (4 keepers that were all right around 16", a 17" that just barely made the 17 mark, and a real fat 21-22"), also had a few perch with 1 being a real nice one that found the fry pan, and 1 small pike. Ended up losing 2 more walleye at the hole, both looked like keepers as well.

It was amazing how fat these Red Lake walleye are, probably the best looking walleye I've ever seen. 3 16 inch fish made one massive pile of meat after cleaning, it took a real effort on our part to eat all of it but we got it done.

In terms of marketing I'll have to put some thought into it and get back to you. I don't think the drive is too far based on the cars I saw on my way home, seems people are willing to make the drive. Made a pit stop and there were a bunch of fisherman stopped and all trading stories. The one thing I couldn't help but notice is that we were the only ones who were on Red Lake, the rest were up on Lake of the Woods. Everyone seems to want to go to LOW, resorts up there advertise hard in the Metro area so I think Red Lake gets overlooked some times.

I think your best marketing is going to be word of mouth and referrals. I for one would refer people to you and we'd love to come back and hopefully make it a yearly trip. I've also got a few pictures I can send you if you are interested. Thanks again.
