The season has begun! We have about ten fish houses out on the lake now and have started the year. We currently have 7-9 inches of ice on Four Mile Bay right now and 10-11 inches on the lake just past Pine Island where we fish and travel. Their is not much snow on the ice at this time. We are making ice daily. It was 15 degrees below zero last night. The forecast looks good for ice making, they are calling for -20 on Saturday! It's winter!! Get out and have some fun!
Check back tomorrow for the first fishing report of the season. If you are looking to venture out on your own, llight trackers, snowmobiles and four wheelers only are advised and it is also important to stick on the marked trails.
Snowmobile Trails The land snowmobile trails are getting worked on, but not alot of grooming has begun yet until we have a few more days with cooler temperatures under our belts. The groomers need a decent ice base on the rivers, streams and ditches until their heavy equipment are able to cross. As for snow we have LOTS of snow! It sure will be fun when the trails get groomed! The lake trails are not marked and it will be at least a week maybe two before they get marked across the big waters. The cross country ski trails at Zippel Bay State park just a short 6 miles away from Sportsman's Lodge are groomed and in excellent condition.
