We had a very interesting weekend of bowhunting. No deer between the three of us, but a lot of action.
First is the deer skull pictured below. One of the rifle party had a bad shot it last year(we didn't believe it was this big either). After 7 hours of searching and a trail gone way cold we gave up. Looking for spots to put a portable on some state land near by we found it. Almost 2 miles from where he shot it, at least we assume it's the same one.
I had a nice 8 point on sunday that wouldn't give me a shot. Not that he knew I was there, but a trail on the bottom side of my lane about 80 yards out was his favored path. Never came closer then 80 or so yards and I'm not the pot shot type. Tried to grunt him in with no success. Passed on a nice doe that was 30 yards out because he was out there. Can't complain. Went all day monday and didn't see nothing but raindrops.
Then about 15 minutes into the three hour drive home I caught that brown spot in the ditch in the corner of my eye. HUGE 10 pointer that aimed himself right in from of my car. Over 200 lbs with a nice wide rack, not quite as thick as the one in the picture. Luckily i just missed him too. After a few storys of people rolling to miss a deer I slammed the brakes and swerved slightly but only missed him by 2 feet or so at about 65mph. My poor little cavalier would have been totaled 200 miles from home. Gives me some motivation to get back out there.
This weekend should be a good one, watch out on the ride up and good luck to everybody.
