Hi Folks,

Just want to run something buy you all...

I have seen this on other forum pages, not necessarily fishing sites but forums non-the-less, where they have a "HighLighted Posts" section on their homepage. These are posts that have been deemed by the Moderators to have either current information that is helpful or information that is valuable. I am thinking it might be cool to do something similar for MFP. Might be a way to have a more dynamic home page, where links to the topics would go directly to the posts, and to keep people interested and compel them to click through to the topic or to respond.

Once again, I am asking for members advice to see if you would like something like this implemented. I am trying to come up with ways to keep users coming back and to garner more users.

If you are new here, and don't understand how or why a webmaster would be asking a question like this of you, please visit the following links which will give you a good perspective on how this site is run , democracy, and why we all view members as a valuable part of this site...

Well that went over like a lead balloon... smile smiley Anyone?

How about another suggestion. How about we name all of our services something out of the ordinary. I mean really out there. For example, we could call the "Fishing Blogs" something like "Shut Up and Blog." The forum we could call "Ishy Fishy Talk."

Sorry... not enough sleep.

crazy smiley

Just trying to come up with some ideas to change things up. I get bored rather easily...

Well... I am for anything that could either make this site stand out more or anything that would garner new users. It looks like we get quite a few new users signing up, but once again, only a fraction of them post. The site has definitely deviated from a couple of lakes to posts on more lakes via questions or answers. But what would help is if we could get some more users willing to post for some areas that e do not cover that well. LOTW, Superior, Brainerd area, etc.

I've seen users in the past from these areas, but we seem to get reports seldom.

Any ideas people????

Highlighted posts thing sounds good. Have you ever thought of emphasizing the search feature a little more. Personally, I find it very useful to search for info and I'm surprised how many results are found but I still forget the search is here sometimes.

MFP has a search function?

I'm not completely following the highlighted posts idea. However, jazzing up the home page sounds like a very good idea.

Here's another one... How about showing the full thread when you click respond. I often start writing something and want to reference the original post, but can't. To do it, we have to copy what we are writing, click back, read, then click forward and paste. Not very efficient. I've completely bombed out of a reply because I didn't want to go through that. Could lead to more posting by others too.

I like this new feature. I know exactly what FishCat is talking about in wanting to reference the thread while replying. This would have saved me a ton of time over the years.

Well folks... you just gotta tell me. smile smiley

As for the search feature, the only thing I can think of would be to move it to a more prominent place... top of each page or maybe the top of the menu.
