Tim, I think your comments are in poor taste. You do not know the entire story of how this fish was caught. It could have been hooked in the gills, maybe a real long fight on light line and rod, maybe they did try and revive it and it didn't make it. Even then, they still have the right to keep it, mount it, or eat it, as long as they are following the laws. I know this might go against your ideas of c&r fishing for highly prized trophies such as this one appears to be, but you should not jump to conclusions and start spoutting insults because everyone of the millions of fisherpeople out there do not follow your conservation ideas. You should be yelling at the DNR, not someone proud of their trophy.

Dave , I'm ok with someone keeping a fish as long as it's leagle and this one isn't. MN has a 48" min to keep muskies this fish isn't that big it never stood a chance coverd in dirt and rocks even if they would have tried to release it it would have died. This is why when ever I'm driving around Minnetonka and see people fishing under a bridge I call TIP they're sure to write a ticket if they show up.

Tim, keep in mind that there are some metro area lakes with an exemptions to the 48" minimum. In these lakes the minimum is 40" which the fish looks to surpass. You have no idea the circumstances behind this catch so you may want to be careful standing up their on your soap box. The fall can be further than it appears.

Can you explain your reasoning for calling TIP when you see people shore fishing Tonka? Do you actually see these people breaking laws BEFORE you call or do you just ASSUME they must be breaking a law. Remember, innocent until proven guilty, it applies to EVERYONE.

Regardless of the details or your opinion please keep your posts civil. Name calling has no place here, if you want to talk about the issue please do some respectfully.

There's no exception to Tonka it's 48"min. That's the Greys bay bridge you can see in the pic. The reason I call tip is because out of the 20 ppl standing there at least a few of them are breaking the law. If your trying to imply that I do it becaus of race your wrong I call tip on everybody. I've got nothing to hide on top of my soap box.

I'm glad Webdude cleaned up the language, and this thread seems to be getting more civil. Assuming that the gal holding the fish is only 5 foot tall (60"). That fish probably does make the 48" mark. She is clearly not long arming it, is almost is at the top of her head, and is well below her knees. Nobody can tell for sure though by looking at a photo. I'm the kind of guy that gives people the benefit of the doubt, unless things look really bad. I don't think this crosssed the line.

Tim, what laws are these people breaking? Do you seem them first hand?

I'm more concerned that you are calling TIP when you are just assuming 2-3 out of 20 MIGHT be breaking a law. CO's are spread thin enough as it is, they don't need to be out running around trying to prove or disprove your assumptions. Don't make the call unless you can 100% verify a law has been broken and you can give enough info about the crime and the person to actually be of use.

And actually I did the editing in the first post. I didn't think that sort of comment should stick around too long.
