Lets just start this by saying that I know better then to do what needed to be done today. But sometimes the fish needs to go back in the lake, more then I need all my blood.
Got a new combo last weekend at reeds, 8' medium heavy fenwick HMX with a abu ambassador 6500 for 128 bucks after tax. Finally got to try it out this weekend and I must say, very nice.
Hooked into a 34" on a blue baby girl right on top of the water. Big swirl followed by a hard strike and dove right down into the thick weeds. Rod had no problem pulling her out of the weeds and putting her in the boat. Almost too easy but the rod is mainly for muskie.
Only problem was that even with a fast retrieve to keep the lure near the surface, she took it all the way down and next to the gills. With only a needle nose pliers I used my thumb nail right on the bone on the upper lip to pry the mouth open and got the hook out with very minimal damage to the fish. But she quickly repaid me by jerking to the right and pretty much eating my left thumb. You can see the result in the picture, took me 15 minutes to stop the bleeding. The fish didn't even need to be revived, credit the 45 second fight. Gotta love power pro.
About an hour later my buddy was looking in his box for something else and found the spreader.
Good times

Report from the big pond was excellent. I got two 16.5 and a 14 along with a couple jumbo's. Buddy got a 23, all on leaches, under a bobber or lindys in about 25 feet. Smallies are starting to bite well on shallow rock piles nothing too big this year got a 21 last year around this time.

How I wish I could smash my computer screen and grab those mouth-watering fishes.
Seriously though, I love the first picture the best, coz of the sea as backdrop.
