First of all I'd like to say hi to everyone, and I'm looking forward to being a member of this board.

I've been living in Minneapolis for a couple of years now, and I love it! I recently got my gf into fishing, and we are looking for a nice spot to go this weekend where we can catch some panfish/crappies. What I'd ideally like to find is a non-crowded spot on the shore where we can bring some fold-out chairs and relax for a few hours. A pier or dock would be ok, but those tend to be crowded, and not much sitting room, so I'd like to avoid those if possible.

So if anyone knows a lake/spot with a nice shore fishing area let me know please...

Thanks and have a good opener weekend everyone!

Oh man, you can catch panfish in just about any pond in the Metro.

The MN DNR has a great website to help you out. The FIN Program (Fishing In The Neighborhood) is a good thing to check out and will show you some good spots. Nokomis or Harriet would be good lakes to start with.

Don't forget the Mississippi River. Anywhere you can get down to the river is a good spot, really. And you never know what you'll catch. Nightcrawlers are the ticket, with a simple dropper rig or a fishfinder rig. Cast into an eddy or slack spot in the current and hang on.

Nice post.

Fishing is an ancient practice that dates back to, at least, the beginning of the Paleolithic period about 40,000 years ago 70-271.Isotopic analysis of the skeletal remains of Tianyuan man, a 40,000 year old modern human from eastern Asia 70-272, has shown that he regularly consumed freshwater fish.Archaeology features such as shell middens 70-284,discarded fish bones and cave paintings show that sea foods were important for survival and consumed in significant quantities 70-285.
