Going to be in Kanabec county (Spelling is close) for fishing opener. Anyone have suggestions for a good lake. I have a couple in mind but am not set yet. Willing to drive about an hour for some eyes. We have had some luck on lake 11, anyone fished on pine or big pine, any others? any help would be appreciated
Neal, I'm originally from Finlayson. In my experiances Big Pine can be frustrating for eyes. I have tried lindys drifting and trolling. I have tried slip bobbers, and trolling with rapelas. I have tried jigging and have had very limited luck. Maybe it is just me. But I have put many many hours in on that damn lake. Early ice has always been the best for me.
If anyone else wants to throw some tips out to help me tackle this lake you can be sure I will try them.
There is usually not to many people out there for opener. I have seen more on Lake 11 the last couple years.
I was doing some research and it looks like Fish Lake in Mora is a good spot to try. DNR Lakefinder talks pretty highly of it. Not sure how busy it will be this weekend. It is shallow, 9.5ft being the deepest.
Yeah there was a TON of people on knife. Every spot I knew had 2 or 3 boats in it already. Fish wasn't as bad but still really busy on saturday afternoon. The nice weather had everbody out but I had a good time as did alot of other people so I would have to call this opener a winner for sure.
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
