Its been incredibly stressful at work the last few weeks so in an attempt to decompress I've been out hitting the shores of the Mississippi river in search of a therapeutic walleye treatment.

Thankfully for me and my blood pressure the walleye have been there to greet me over the last week with a few random other fish mixed in.

For the most part the walleye have been small, my largest so far is probably 18 inches (it was fat though). Other than that yesterday was full of 14 inchers and 6 inchers, not much else in between.

My buddy did find one lone big fish, pulling in one that went probably 23-24 inches.

There's been a few crappie mixed in here and there but not the usual number of white bass that you'd expect from this spot. Its been about 90% walleye which is odd for river fishing.

As works looks to be more stressful than ever the next couple weeks I'll be fishing as much as possible to help keep me sane.

Work is both a blessing and a curse. I have been lucky to be busy, but I've had little time to fish, and when I did the weather didn't cooperate. This Saturday finally looks promising, but I'm sure something will mess it up.

If I remember correctly, last year about this time you were looking for a job, but had more time to fish (if not the $ to support the habit). Now you have a job, but of course that cuts into your fishing time. So you can't win either way, but good for you to get out and have some success.

Yeah its a curse and a blessing, in this case its more of a blessing that turned into a curse.

I was so happy to land a job after being laid off but its looking like it might not be the best situation for me to be in.

But on the bright side the fish are biting and I'm heading back out on Thursday.

By the way, don't let the weather stop you, rain gear was invented for a reason.

The problem down here isn't rain, its the wind. March and April tend to be the windiest months in Florida. Today's forecast was 21-25 knot winds and 7-9 foot seas ooo smiley , and I wouldn't fish that in a battleship. The same would be true in MN if you were on Superior, LOW, Mille Lacs or other big lakes.

By Saturday its supposed to calm down, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, the long-range forecast can be very inaccurate so I won't know until Friday afternoon if its a go. Good luck tomorrow.

Made it out tonight for about 2 1/2 hours. Man, what a fantastic night to be out.

Started the night with a fish on my first cast, good sign for things to come. Ended the night with maybe a dozen fish. A lot of small ones again this year all in that 8-10 inch range. Caught 3 decent eyes between 14"-20", a white bass, a sheepie and then the rest were all little walleye.

My buddy ended up with the big fish of the day. Didn't get a tape on it but holding it up to my arm I'd say it went 24"-25".

All the fish came on a jig and minnow, several others fishing around us caught next to nothing fishing bobbers.

Here's a couple pics from today.

My big fish of the day.

Nice fish caught by my buddy.
