So first off, I try to always bring someone fishing with me when I go. I always prefer to have someone else in the boat. However, I am single and I fish a lot. At times, I go on my own close to home, but especially when I head up to my property in Todd county. I am sick of posting pictures to face book of my pike laying flat on my boat seat(see below). I am trying to find a simple solution to taking pictures by myself. Obviously it will involve mounting a camer/mini cam corder in the boat. Anybody ever do this and have any suggestions? It needs to be simple. Something I can have in place and at the ready while fishing. I am thining video might be better as it will not be as difficult to set up the singe shot photo, and I should be able to pull snapshots from digital video, even if the quality is not going to be as good. What do you think?
Not to mention it will be better for the fish. I can just land it by hand or by net and not have to lay it down and risk it injuring itself, or losing too much slime, which is key to there survival. The towel is to wet the seat first to limit slime loss. This was my best pike last season. It was in the 35 inch range. I was using a musky spinner with a built in trailor/stinger hook. The fish enveloped the whole lure, and I the trailor hook was in a real bad place. I had to side cutter the stinger hook off and leave it buried. The lake I was on has trophy slot so it was too small to keep. That is the only problem I have with the slot on selected lakes. I hope is survived. You can see some blood on the seat.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
