Not a panfish guy so the ice fishing stuff if put away till next year. Noticed catfish is open all season. Would it make sence to fish cats now? Would I look for them in different places this time of year? I work near the st. anthony falls. I know people fish for cats downthere near the mill ruins park. Would that be a good place right now?
If you aren't a pan fish guy then go hit pool 2 of the Mississippi. That stretch is open year round for walleye, small mouth and whatever else might bite. Walleye and bass are catch and release only but it can be fun.
I can't say i know any specific spots in the south metro. One thing i do know is as soon as most of the ice is melted off the shore the channel cats bite like crazy. Haven't picked up yet. I like to use "sonnys stink bait" but it's hard to find it fresh around here. A dead sucker minnow with a cut down its belly works good and a couple fat heads works good too. If you go with a few fat heads you can get good smallies and other random fish too. Good luck.
Our tradition is that of the first man who sneaked away to the creek when the tribe did not really need fish. ~ Roderick Haig-Brown, about modern fishing, A River Never Sleeps, 1946
