Hi all. At what point in the hardwater season does the ice begin to get thinner? Is there any lakes now that are beginning to melt? When does vehicle travel (full size truck w/ topper) begin to be unsafe?

Thanks,

Not sure I welcomed you to the site yet, so welcome.

Every year is so different with the ice melt. Right now we have 2+ feet of ice on most lakes so vehicle travel will be safe for a long while yet.

It will take warm temps a long time to melt the ice by itself. What will tear apart the ice faster is rain. If we get a bunch of rain then the ice will go much faster.

Its just one of those things that can't be defined or pinpointed. Your best bet is to just keep your eye on it as the season progresses. But like i said, you'll be safe for awhile yet.

Hey Fisher Tim,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. I think you will find the site fun, entertaining, and educational.

If you have a few pics of any of your ice fishing catches be sure and post a few.
