Nice find, Pier...

Is it just me? Or are there others out there who feel the way I do. If I would have caught a trophy like that, I would have snapped a couple of pics and put that beautiful fish back in the water. I know my attitude about these trophy fish may cause a bit if a controversy, but man, I feel bit sad watching a video like that. The biggest 'eye I ever caught was a 28.5 out of Mille Lacs, and if I would have had a camera, I would have snapped a pic, just so I could of gotten a taxidermist to make a replica for me. Not the same, I know, but hey... it's how I feel. What was really wierd was when I caught my fish, I was on launch with maybe 20 others who were fishing and there was down-right hostility that I put that fish back. Oh well... to each his own, eh? I know, I know, it's legal and all that, and everyone has a right to keep it... it's the law. But for some reason it still rubs me the wrong way. I guess I just can't help it.

yeah.. Recently I witnessed an amazing fish come out of a local lake. This isn't a lake known for fish of this magnitude but it was very impressive. Borderline incredible. The dude snapped a picture and put the fish back in the lake.

Unfortunately that picture has been spreading via cell phones and people are telling the lake. I'm positive now that this lake will be swamped with fisherman looking for the fish. One group of guys that I was talking to out on a lake showed me the picture. I told them I knew the guy and he just let the fish go. They were amazed. One guy said "What? I would be cooking up pike for everyone I know."... This is exactly why I'm disappointed that the pic and lake name are circulating.

If that guy caught that fish then it's done for.... Of course, I'll be out trying to catch the fish to. But I will take a pic and let it go just like the guy before me...

The fish is unbelievable for any lake let alone the one it came from!

I think 99% of the time Im with you on releasing that fish. But, the once in a lifetime catch that ends up a state record, I dont blame that guy one bit.

PS I have never mounted a trophy, and have caught quite a few.

Hey vikefanmn77,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

And yes... I don't really blame the guy, either... that is a very nice fish and a State record. I am just saying that for me, it would probably be a very tough decision to make, if I knew I had a record. I think I would measure and weigh it in a photo and put it back. I think it's too bad that you pretty much have to kill the fish in order to get it in the record books... you know with all the measuring, weighing, verification, etc., that you have to go through.
