My fiance and I will be married at the end of August this year and (believe it or not) she wants to go up north fishing for Walleyes for our honeymoon. I am having a hard time finding a quiet place "way-up-north" that has good Walleye fishing. Does anyone have any experience fishing the north woods and have any lake/resort ideas? It will be too cold for us to camp but a rustic "old school" cabin/resort would be perfect. (We like the simple life, especially while on a fishing trip.) I am looking for ideas in northern Minnesota only for this trip...thank you all in advance for your advice and information.
Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!
Can you narrow it down a bit? Up North is a pretty wide area. You got the BWCA and all the surrounding waters/rivers. The International Falls area, Ely, Lake Superior, Mille Lacs, Upper Red Lake, Wiinie, etc... literally thousands of lakes to choose from and hundreds of resorts. I am sure some of the members here will put in their two cents worth for their favorites. Personally, if you are looking to fish I would give Winnie or Lake of the Woods a try. If catching fish isn't that important, as it might not be, you can pretty much throw a dart at a map of Minnesota and go there
Do you have your own boat? I have a place on Lake Vermillion that I could possibly rent you during that time. It's private (5 acres in the woods)and has all the comforts of home. Let me know if you're interested and we could talk. It would cost far less than the resorts and is exactly what you're looking for.
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
