dear forum freinds. my wife and i just returned from a week vacation and wanted to thank you all again for your help on voyageurs info from my 5-19-05 post. specially "dr1818." you were not jokeing about the rocks up there! the whole place is rock! my wife and i tagged one (at slow speed thank god). normally not foul mouthed, i let out one giant f-bomb you could probably hear across the lake. no real damage thank god as well, but we were both nervous on the move the rest of the week. dr1818 was right again. fish showing from 28-45 feet but not biteing for anything. we fished the lakes hard and found our best luck night trolling with cranks around sexton island where we stayed. caught walleyes but naturally nothing we could eat thanks to the slots. gas was $3.30 per gal. 5lb ice $4.25 but we had a great time. fish-eat-sleep-swim, our island was paradise complete with a very large doe who came to visit several times per day. thanks again and hope you all are haveing a great summer.....gary.

I am glad to hear you had a good time, gary. My mother and I are heading up next week for Rainy Lake. We'll be taking a house boat (omg, the $ of gas)out, with our little boat in tow. Any suggestions for lure combos? Bait? I've always have been able to snag walleyes with a lindy rig with a leach on LOW, but have never fished Rainy. Please, if anyone has info on fish, houseboating, or other Voyageur experience, please share.

Thanks

thanks all. first of all, what is a "kudos" ive heard this alot but nobody says what it is. last i heard it was a "granola snack. and then secondly to triscuit. i had success with crawlers for panfish, rock bass and smallies from 20 feet to the shore. also i got some gear at the sportsmans warehouse. my favorite salesman told me that he and his wife troll up there and are succesful with the "yo-zuri crystal minnows." he wasa right thats what i caught my wallys on trolling from 5pm to nightfall. whats weird is they were in 25 feet of water and the crystal minnow is not a deep diver? lastly have a great time. its paradise up there, and take it from a guy with a lumpy skeg. "FOLLOW THE BOUYS AND WATCH OUT FOR ROCKS!!!" if your not on a bouy path accelerate at your own risk. its all rock up there and it goes from 20 feet to two feet like right now!!! bye gary
