I am looking at making a day trip up to Mille Lacs Lake on my day-off for MLK Day. I have never fished Mille Lacs in winter or summer. Can anybody offer me any tips. As far as equipment, I have all the necassary items from portable house to various rods and lures. My only real blind spot is I have a old lowrance flasher that gives me depth, but I am not sure how able it is to actualy show fish.
How would I locate a good spot? Do I just go to where all the houses are? I would like to be in a place...if possible...where I can have a chance at a pike or musky with my tip-up. I may also try jigging a bit with some spoons and minnow heads for pike. This may be a lame post and if it is my appoligies, but I know I am going to feel really lost once I get up there.
I don't know about Muskie through the ice, but if you are targeting Northern or Walleye, then I could help. First, do you have a GPS with a Lake Maps chip? Or have access to one? If you do, then I can help. If you don't, then I can only point you in a general area/bay/reef. Let me know.
Help me to fish Mille Lacs for the first time! - - -

People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
