i have a question about these spring loaded tip ups i saw on tv. i have heard that they are illegal to use in minnesota. can someone shed some light on that before i go and buy them. no sense and spending the money if i cannot use them here in my home state.

any info will be great.
thanks

As I understand it you can't use any device that will automatically set the hook on a fish. So I'm guessing these are illegal.

Besides with these you'll loose the thrill of running after a flag hurrying to set the hook.

thats what i figured. but i go out with my neices and some of my younger cousins... so if i happen to be busy helping them or something... its nice to be able to get that extra fish... if it means having some help at times...

they get excited when they see it, and its still fun running out after it, but sometimes you have your hands full with younger kids and potentially lose that fish.

thanks for the info. i saw them at Gander and on TV and i was just thinking that could help in those situations.

From page 9 of the fishing regulations booklet:
The use of explosives, firearms, chemicals (not including fish scents),
spring devices, or electricity for taking fish is unlawful.
