Hey guys and gals.

I'm doing a little research and I was hoping you could answer some questions for me. It would be a huge help guys!

Just a couple questions:

1) How many fishing events (tournaments, charity events, seminars)do you participate in per year?

2) how many fishing events would you like to participate in per year?

3) Where do you learn about fishing events (If you get your info here, like I do, please say so)?

4) Have you ever missed a fishing tournament because you didn't know about it (you learned about it after it was too late or you simply forgot it was coming up)?

thanks guys!

1. 8-10 tourneys a year.

2. Used to fish at least 10-15 per year, but have a lot of other
commitments now.

3. The MTT already put out a tentative schedule for next season,
but others I fish are usually on certain days/weekends the same
time every year. Other tournaments that are newer I hear about
from other tournament anglers.

4. No, haven't done that yet. smirk smiley

3... maybe 4.

2) how many fishing events would you like to participate in per year?
A lot more

3) Where do you learn about fishing events (If you get your info here, like I do, please say so)?
Here and a couple of other sites.

4) Have you ever missed a fishing tournament because you didn't know about it (you learned about it after it was too late or you simply forgot it was coming up)?
Yeah, I've missed a few, but it's usually because I am not looking.

I have been to s few seminars, usually about a new artificail bait that is out... and how to use it. Very few and far between.

2) how many fishing events would you like to participate in per year?

A lot more... I have never done a regular tournament. I'm saving that for the First Annual MFP Fishoff smile smiley

3) Where do you learn about fishing events (If you get your info here, like I do, please say so)?

A lot of people send me stuff and I usually post it here. I always welcome information and I enjoy sharing it with others.

4) Have you ever missed a fishing tournament because you didn't know about it (you learned about it after it was too late or you simply forgot it was coming up)?

Not really... I usually know what's going on... it's a matter of getting motivated to do it.

Lets see fished 4 club tournaments, 3 Weekend Series, The Minnetonka Classic, 4 youth tournaments, 1 fishing for life, taking out military families.

Most things I fish are listed on Classic Bass or friends e-mail me.

In the last legislative session, the DNR was required to develop an electronic(web based)fishing tournament application process. Part of this would be a calendar of every permitted contest in MN. They were given $15,000 to do this, but so far they have had a bid of over 36,000 to do it. If you go to the Wisconsin DNR Website theirs can be viewed. Minnesota uses the same system as WI, but the programmers want to bill for top bucks (Just my humble opinion)

Haven't fished touraments for a few years but seen the results of the new rules first hand on a small southern Minnesota lake. In my opinion the results aren't good. The locals call the bass anglers "bassholes". The access is jammed every weekend all summer long so no one else can launch and the weeds are ripped up and floating everywhere making it a pain for anyone trolling for walleye or northern. The noise of the early morning launches from the access makes it tough for the cabin owners to sleep in. Numbers of high speed boats blasting by way too close to locals trying to fish or otherwise enjoy the lake doesn't help the bass anglers image. Seems like some adjustments to the new tournament regulations are in order! Possibly go back to the 50% of the access used for tourny rule. Mandate mid lake tourny launches. Educate bass anglers so they don't run the big motors thru the shallow vegetation and self imposed speed limits are a few suggestions. The lakes belong to everyone and that includes tournament anglers but sharing them gets complicated on busy summer weekends.

I fish 10-12 tournaments a year. Last year it was a few more. I also host the Pan-O- Prog tournament in Lakeville.
When I see some people that do not like Bass Tournaments I just smile and keep on doing the tournaments. Most of the time it is because of my Ranger Bass boat. They want one or would like to fish out of one, but they can't, So they make up stuff about them.
I have been around Minnesota tournaments for over twenty years and have seen very few tournament anglers being rude or anything less than courtious. When it has happened other tournament guys step in and talk to to them.
Every tournament has rules and regs that are much tuffer than the sate regs.
In fact first year guys are shocked that they have to behave better than just the regular guy.
Every B.A.S.S. tournament I have fished in, have us do a ramp clean up (even in the rain) before we leave. Woe to the guy that trys to leave with out helping.
I still think its the flaked and wrapped boats people don't like.
I get most of my info at Classic bass. com.

Mike Owens,
p.s.
I was the TV producer of the Don Shelby tournament for 5 years, I also produce the KFAN for a number of years. I also have done the World Walleye tournament. plus a number of
charity tournament.
