Color doesn't seem to be the issue lately for the deep bite, as much as the profile and wobble of the bait. Was having great success with Glass Shad Raps, but, once the water warmed, the fish are now preferring a slimmer, wider wobble bait. We have now been using Reef Runner Deep Little Rippers on the leadcore and are having much more luck with the walleyes. On the bigger lakes, smaller shad type baits such as shad raps or salmo hornets have been turning more fish, but this is also a much shallower (less than 10') bite on the remaining weedlines. Particular colors that have worked for the deep bite have been glass shad, glass purple, and glass perch, along with cheap sunglasses, and green firetiger in the reef runners. The shallower bite colors have been white perch, perch, hot perch, shiner, and firetiger, but, again, it seems to be the action and profile of the bait, and not the color so much, that is triggering the fish. Others can weigh in on their individual successes, but up here, that's what's currently working for us.
