I knew it... I Knew IT! Everyone was telling me the bite was lousy, but I gotta tell ya, I wasn't going to hear it. The weather pattern has held for the past week and a half... usually a very good recipe for some good fishing. Also took a gander at the solunar tables... full moon on Friday and then waning with Friday marked as excellent and Saturday and Sunday marked as good. And yep, I was right... it was the best outing of the year for me. BSL usually is famous for it's small walleyes, but I managed to catch them up to 18 inches. Also the smallmouth were very nice. Tap caught a 5 lber and couple more that were close to that. Now... don't laugh at me, but we got into some rockbass that were at least 2 lb. The record in MN is 2.2 lb and we were close. I bet if we actually targeted them, we could pull a record out of there. A couple of nice 12" perch and of course, my usual big northern that I always seem to catch. We fished any drop-offs we could find with rock or gravel bottoms going into weeds. Typical depth was the usual BSL 4 to 8 feet. Used lindys, barrel sinkers or straight slip bobbers with lime green beads and hooks. I tried using lime green hooks with red beads and that really seemed to pull in the rockbass, so I stuck with the single color. It was one of those weekends where you say, "hey, let's try over there," and you would catch a couple and move on.

Is "BSL" Big Sandy? I have a buddy who did well up there last weekend. They found a lot of Walleyes but they also stumbled upon a swarm of huge Crappies, so they switched gears for a while. They had tight lines all weekend.

On the other hand, I fished Clearwater on the 30th, 31st, 4th, 5th, and 6th, determined to find a Walleye in that lake. Nothing. Found Northerns and Largemouth, and that's it. I've had success there in the past, but this year has produced no Walleyes for me.
