Hey TBone-

They were mostly caught on Taneycomo. It is a river/stream and a more lake like watershed on the lower end. Following is a link if anyone is interested. A great trout fishery. The lower lake is also a tremendous bass fishery that has virtually no pressure at all.

I fly fished almost exclusively this summer. It was my first year to really focus on it. The kids seemed to pick it up reasonably fast and enjoy it as well. I must say that the "fun/enjoyment" factor is way up the scale for fly fishing once you have some of the casting basics down. In addition to the trout I also had some really good days smallmouth fishing. In particular over on the Chippewa river near Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire, Wisconsin. A buddy of mine also caught several muskies on a fly in the river this summer.

It is not the most effective means to fish at all times. However, there are times that it can be the single most effective option available. It is also a method that can be successfully used for a wide variety of species. Trout, smallmouth, largemouth, bluegill, and pike all seem to be species that are prime to be caught with flies at different times. I will not be a fly fishing only guy. However, it is one method in the overall bag of tricks that is worth having skill at as it will at times out produce all other options.

The fly rod has been put away for the year and from now till season end I will be pursuing trophy muskies and walleyes. However, when the trout opener comes around again I will definately be out there with fly rod in hand!

Hey TBone.. that is the truth! It is not uncommon to see perhaps several hundred fish a day. Of course catching is another matter!

It is a bit like fishing in a swift current at 50 degrees with water literally as clear as a bathtub. In fact it is EXACTLY like that. So you have VERY skittish fish in extremely shallow clear water. Stealth and finesse are MUSTS.

You do have to be stealthy to catch fish there..but to the ones who take the extra care and effort the results can be excellent. The added bonus of seeing a couple hundred rainbows up to 7-9 pounds each trip, and the occasional giant browns of 10-15 pounds, will get the old mojo going!

If anyone is down in the area, and wants to give those trout a try, feel free to contact me and I can give you up to the date info or put you on fish personally as I guide there fairly often.
