Going up to Crane Lake in late June of next year and have never been before. Any tips or pointers. I was wondering if you can get to any other lakes that a connected without having to portage. Like just drive our boat to? I was also looking for a depth map if anyone knows of where to get one. Thanks for any help. Mike

Im guessing your referring to Crane Lake in St. Louis Co. The lake is on the navronics chips and also they have plastic coated maps in Orr at the bait store. Ive guided there for a few years but mostly on the canadian side of Sandpoint and Namakan. You have easy access to Sand Point, Little Vermillion and Namakan from Crane Lake. Any size boat will work - small boats have plenty of places to get out of the wind and large boats can easily get around. You do have to be careful of rocks!! If you fish rock reefs or points generally stick to 20 to 30 ft of water with jig and minnow. If shallow find coontail and or cabbage. These generally are where you see birch and popple along the shore.(not pine) Fish 10 ft to 15 ft depending on the weeds. Jig and minnow works well there as well. Hope this helps some. Gary
