hey fellas just checking to see if anyone fishes the anoka dam. can you fish there all night for cats or does the area shutdown at a certain time. I got back from grand isle louisianna and went out 50 miles off the oil rigs and i caught a 110# yellowfin tuna. three other guys with me got a 70, 85 and 90# ers. i will try and post a pic later. thanks for any info on the anoka dam
The Anoka dam is on the Rum River in downtown Anoka. In the past, you could fish there anytime. Nice peir. Big smallies and carp dominate your catch. I hooked a monster carp bigger than my leg once. Hour fight in fast water, wouldn't fit into a net, landed it on the big rocks and let it go. 30lbs+ easy. With the drought, the water might be real low, and fishing not so good. When the water levels are at least 3+ft and a bit turbid fishing is good. When it is low go down and make a little map of the bottom and big rocks and such. This will make things more fun when the water levels rise. FYI the Rum River dam is about 600 yards upstream of where the Rum dumps into the Mississippi. I have seen people bring their boats up the river to fish at the dam when the river is higher, although I wouldn't advise doing that.
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
