Was on Winnie fishing from 7/4-7/10. Fishing was little weird this year. Went fishing with a guide Sunday and had a good day fishing. We used everything from leeches, shiners, night crawlers and crankbaits. The guide said this was an odd year that they were still using minnows after the 4th. The minnow bite was the best catching a mixed bag of walleye, perch, and northerns. We fished humps for a while finding a lot of fish but only catching one or two then they would disappear. Fished some weed lines and caught some good fish there. Stony point seemed to be the best. Caught 23" walleye there. My never fail area was good too, Sugar Bar breakline. Found some good keepers there too and some nice slot walleyes there too. Trolling crankbaits along deeper weed lines produced some smaller northerns, perch and 20" walleye. All in all had decent trip. With the guide caught enough for big fish fry to feed our group of 30 some family members and brought home some walleyes for some other family members that couldn't join us.
All the romance of trout fishing exists in the mind of the angler and is in no way shared by the fish. ~ Harold F. Blaisdell, The Philosophical Fisherman, 1969
