i've been out on minnetonka about 4 times this year (maybe 12 hours total) and haven't boated a musky. i've had about 6 or 7 follows, but haven't gotten one on the line. actually the same thing happened to me last year. i didn't get my first fish until late july. after that i got a fish just about every time i went out (with 2 two-fish outings). probably its slow because i'm doing something wrong when fishing june and july. i seem to be a better fisherman later in the year
I have seven in the boat so far this year which is slightly better than normal for this time of year. the water temps are down significantly from last year at this time. the north metro is where I have been spending most of my time. I noticed the results of the Mille lacs tourney were posted from this weekend 5 fish caught for the tourney but there were only 12 boats not bad odds for that lake looks like things may be going up there once again.
Caught one yesterday - about 3 lbs - but it could be the same one I caugtht a month ago. I've either caught two this year (from Bush Lake in Bloomington) or one twice. Also caught a bass close to 5 lbs from the same spot, both on sucker minnows under bobbers on the weedline.
If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
