I've been toying with the idea of letting users sign up for a daily post subscription. This would be an email that would show all the new topics for the last 24 hours and also topics that have been replied to. The email could have links that go to the specific posts and I could also add an opt-out link. I came up with this idea while working on the notify thing. The only reason I am bringing this up is that I have never seen this before and I am always trying to be a bit different then all the cookie-cutter php forums out there.

The email could be sent at 4 or 5 am every morning and any new topic or updated topic would be listed. I could have this up and running by the end of the day, today.

What say you?

This is a great idea! Why not take it a step further and allow non-members to subscribe, too. Might get people interested enough to join. I always see a lot of visitors on the site and I think that the ultimate goal should be to get them to sign up. I would also make it easy for them to unsubscribe.

I have never see anything like this on other sites and I think it would be a good addition.

I don't know how helpful that would be to me. You still have to go to the site and the first thing you see on the Main Forum page is a list of all the most recent posts right there. Isn't that the same thing?

It might get me to the site quicker, if I check email before MFP in the morning that is, but once there, it's not like I'm going to go back to my email to see what new posts were sent to me.

Email notification of replies to a post would be nice though grin smiley

I think that a subscritption service is an excellent idea and I will tell you why. For users like myself who visit the site maybe once a week (sorry 'Dude, been very busy lately), it would be great to get a list of posts that have been made. I typically look for fishing reports on Mille Lacs, but by the time I get on here, the reports get buried so fast that I have to hunt around for them. If I got a daily email showing what has been posted, along with a link to that post, I can go directly to what I am looking for without having to hunt for it.

I also get my emails on my cell and it would be nice to be able to be on the road and keep abreast as to what is going on... I like the idea. Add that to the fact that I can get daily information as to what is going on without having to visit the site might compel me to visit more often. If you open it up to the general public, it would be a great way for non-users to keep up with what's going on too. I would think that if you didn't want the subscription, you could just opt out and not receive the emails. Keep the control in the users hands. I do know I would use it.

Yeah I might use it to. Could you make it so you can change the email address of where to send the emails? I have a couple of emails and would probably want to send these to a different email then the one in my user information profile stuff.

I definitely see the value... so I went ahead and finished it. I joined and hopefully we will get a few others to do so as well, eh?
