I am gonna be headed north to Lake Winnie on July 3rd. Was just wondering if anyone had any news on the fishing or the mayfly hatch. Thank you for any help.

Haven't been on Winnie for a couple weeks, but sounds like the humps and/or bars can be good on certain days. If they are slow, try weedlines, especially if you have a wind blowing in, with a jig/minnow or Shad Rap #5 or Salmo Hornet #4, in about 7-10'. Perch, yellow perch, hot perch, hot steel, crawfish, and firetiger patterns have all worked well for me. I would try a jig/minnow on the humps still, but would also try rigs w/ leeches or crawlers, especially if multiple lines are an option. Areas that I would concentrate on include Bena Bar, Big Bend, the north end humps, and Sugar Bar to name a few. If you have the ability to move around a lot, you WILL find fish eventually, especially if you are all by yourself on a hump without other boats around! The River Rat in Cohasset has real nice golden shiners (perfect size) and a nice selection of cranks as well, so stop in and see Ken and Nancy on your way through and they'll set you up!! Good luck to you on your trip!!!
