So heres the thing... I like northern fishing and hitting a few bass and my partner like bass fishing with an occasional northern or two. We work a area as team with different tatics. It works nicely but I think some of my baits are suffering from their true moption by the leader, especially my plastic swimbaits. My fishing pal has needed to replace a "bass" lure that fell to a toothy pike. So I ask simply...when to leader and when not too?

If I am out fishing pike I will always use a leader and have not noticed less fish with it (with the cost of lures these days) I use wire leaders and still pick up many bass while using one. If I am bass fishing I tend to be using plastic baits and they work much better with out a wire leader and if I do get bit off the cost of these is not that much.
