Fished the Swan Lake Classic with my tourney partner on Sat. and caught a lot of fish, but all were too big (protective slot 17-26"). Noticed that most other people had the same problem, not many walleyes weighed (think it was in the single digits). We caught our fish on rigs, 4-6'long, with crawlers and leeches. Crawlers were the best, but did catch a few on the leech. 13-14.5" was the best depth for us, on the weedline, and the fish bit all day, although it slowed down a bit around noon. Water temp at 2 pm was 70.8 deg., so it has warmed considerably, and the fish have reacted, especially the bigger females. I wouldn't say it's the best lake to fish in the area for a meal, but, from a photo op. standpoint, you won't be disappointed with the fish you have to release. Most we caught we in the low to mid 20"'s, but there are a lot of 25"'s and bigger in the lake. I guess the slot has done it's job, but may need some tweaking in the near future due to apparent lack of recruiting classes coming up. Anyway, give Swan Lake, or neighboring Trout Lake in Coleraine a try sometime. The abundance of big fish is incredible!
