So, Woodtic and I decided to hit Bald Eagle yesterday. We didn't get there until 10:30 am. When we pulled into the landing, there were 6 boats in front of us. We also noticed that all of the 40 or so spaces for parking your trailer were filled. So we backed out, and went down the county road in both directions for quite a ways and noticed that there is no parking on either side. Now I have to ask a question. Is this just a limited space thing? Or is this by design? The reason I ask is if we would had put the boat in, there would have been no place to park... and I mean no place as in we drove around looking and could not find anywhere within a mile of the landing. Now I know we were a bit late getting there, but I started wondering if the DNR wants to limit the amount of traffic on the lake and this would be one way of doing that. Most of the other public boat ramps I have been on let you park off-road on the side of the highway, county road or whatever. At Bald, there is just no parking (posted all over the place), even though there is plenty of room at the side of the road like the other landings. Next question would be, what about those 6 boats in front of us? Were these stupid people that were going to put in their boat and then drive around and try to find a place to park the trailer? Maybe they were locals who drive their trailers home? I don't know, but after driving around for a bit and asking ourselves these questions, we decided to head for a different lake.

So... we headed up to Big Marine, and of course, the lot was full... BUT... guess what? You could park off-road off the highway! So we put the boat in.

The report is pretty bleak. We baked out on the lake and fished until 8 pm before we decided to go home. We fished hard too. The net result was a couple of dinky bass and 2 perch the size of my index finger. We tried everything... leeches, fatheads, crappie minnows, spoons, raps, jigs, lindys, deep, shallow, north, south, east, west, rocks, mud, weeds, drop-offs, weedlines, ya da ya da ya da... We graphed tons of fish, but folks, they just weren't biting. We saw one walleye get caught on another boat. Also a bass, but that was it for us and for everyone else that happened to be near us. A tough day on the lake... but still better than mowing the lawn smile smiley

WD,

It sounds like you used everything but crawlers. I bet if you would have used crawlers you would have hammered them. smile smiley

Did you try trolling a spinner rig? I'm telling you a spinner rig and a crawler was the one gap in your arsenal from the sounds of it. That probably was the magic bait for the day. smile smiley

Yeah, parking at Bald Eagle is definitely limited. I've never found it full on the weekdays, but weekends are another matter. I haven't looked, but you might be able to park on County Road J...the road where you turn off from 61. It's a long walk, though, back to the park.

I never go there on weekends. There are people waterskiing, jetskis, and lots of recreational activity. One weekend I did go there, there was a sailboat regatta, and it was almost impossible to get through the boats to the north end of the lake.

Yeah, I know it's a pain on the weekends. I usually go a lot earlier or I make sure I go when the weather is less then perfect.

I guess we were just itching to get on the water and we were kind of disappointed by the whole thing. Guess I am going to have to start going a bit further up north when the weather's nice, eh?
