Does anyone have any experience fishing Lake Pepin? My girlfriend goes to college down at Winona State so when I drive down there I take HWY 61 South down to Winona. And I drive along Lake Pepin for a decent portion of the drive. It's a big, long body of water I was curious what kind of fishing its good for. I see cars parked on the side of the road and sometimes see people fishing from shore. I was just curious if next time I go down there, should I bring a pole and try some shore fishing for a bit. If anyone has any advice or spots they would be willing to share with me, I would greatly appreciate it (if you don't want to put your spot, technique, bait, etc. for everyone to see, you could always Personal Message me!).

I've fished from shore down there a number of times over the years. The earlier in the year you go the better your odds are.
The spot I've fished the most is just to the right of the marina in Lake City. I've never had a fast and furious bite but I've picked up a few fish from time to time.
I've caught mainly walleye but also some smaller channel cats.
When I've gone I was never very mobile so that hurt the production. If yuo move around and work the shoreline you'll have more luck.
There are a number of easy access shore spots from Lake City and South. I'd say it might be worth a try if you have the time and are looking for something to do.

Yeah I pretty much used live bait. There are a few gas stations in Lake City that sell bait.
Pitching jigs from shore with some plastic might work for you as well. If I went back today thats probably what I would do. Start on one end and start casting and retrieving the jig and work your way down the shore line until you find some fish. The rocks along the marina break wall is a spot that should hold some fish at times.
I would try some sort of swim bait, curly tail grubs, ring worms, or maybe Gulp Leeches.

This is a very good lake, a few friends in the area catch limits of walleye/sauger. I've even hear about some 9-10" sunfish. It's a big lake to get to know but plenty of fish. It's worth a try for sure.

Its been awhile since I've fished down there but if I remember correctly it drops off fairly quickly.
I think the problem with casting crankbaits from shore is they are not in the strike zone for very long.

Just pick up a pack of Mr Twister Sassy Shad. They're like $2-3 for a pack of 10 or 12. I've had great luck with them and everything that swims will hit them.
