anyone who was looking to catch some fins, they are starting to go up creeks. i suggest you start trying for them! they are aggressive and the males are starting to get their spawning colors!
i suggest bucktail jigs, cutbait, live bait, leeches, crawlers, 4" plastic worms.
bright colors really turn them on, go with white, yellow, chartruse and any other bright colors.
use light jigs if you are fishing mucky bottom as to not sink in to that
fish the jig with slow 2" hops along the bottom. or if you can see the fish, pitch the jig to it, and just jiggle it in front of thier faces
look in slackwater areas in the creeks. look in soft bottom areas, and around cover such as cattails, laydowns, and sunken logs. mudflats in the middle of creeks are also a good bet. a few can be found patrolling bluegill bedding areas when they start to bed.
on another note, alot of walleyes have been caught this year around here while targetting crappies. its gonna be a great opener!

Yep, The creek near my house is full of doggies right now.. Some have the bright green belly. Some don't.
I've just been tossing a sucker out and they haven't been able to resist. Biggest about 8 lb. The rest are average of 4 maybe 5 lb. I've also noticed they seem to really push as far into this creek/lagoon as they can. I get 3/1 bights on the end as apposed to further towards the mouth.
I've never targeted bowfin before but they put up one good fight.. I have had a blast the last week fighting these guys.. Lots of northerns started moving in now to so I'm gonna take it easy til opener then try some more..

logan and tbone- those would be the males. during the spawn, the males get a bright green, turqouise, or teal bellies and fins. also- Juveniles and males typically have a dark spot just ahead of the tail; this spot is lacking in adult females.
