I fished Torgy's Bay on Sunday and caught walleyes, bass and pike...no crappie.

I did not see many others bringing any in either but certainly a lot of boats out there.

Friday you could not keep crappies off the hook as well as days prior. A lot of docks went in on Saturday in the bay and that really stires things up...water was like chocolate milk. Seems to be more docks going in each year and for the last two years the crappies really stop until things settle down. You can try deeper or just wait for the water to clear up. Should be good for this weekend...but...most will be after walleyes.

Many many many reports of people catching nice walleyes while fishing crappies...should be a great opener! Weather looks like it will cooperate as well.

Can't wait! I am heading out around 1 am after I close the store...to hit my traditional spot.

We will have all of our bait in on Thursday, will be open until 1 am for Friday night going into Saturday morning...then early again Saturday morning. I plan on frying my 1 am walleyes up for lunch on Saturday! smile smiley

I don't think the weather is going to matter a whole lot. From what we have seen when fishing crappies...the walleyes are pretty agressive.

Catch and release...I am looking for a limit of 15 and 16 inchers but it sure would start the year out right to catch that 30 + that I have spent the last two years after. Three 28.5s last year but still no 30 +. Maybe this will be the year on Waska!

I want to get a stringer of them like old Phil had mounted behind the counter. Anyone every remember seeing that at Phil's Bait before we bought it? He took it with him...very nice mount. I gotta get it started but I need the 30 + to do it.

Good luck to you as well. Pick a full moon night and come up to Waska some time and we will go trophy walleye hunting on Waska.

I will be out for a couple of days getting some prescribed burning down down south and then back up around our area after that. I will try to check in and give updates if I have any.

fish on- you are right about walleyes being aggressive. ive got a few of em while fishing for bowfin. some were really nice. not one was under 12". i cant wait for opener!

also to add to your report- hobo park marina is kicking out alot of bluegills! jigging with waxies or eurolarvea as far back as possible is producing the most. i got a nice freshwater drum there last week while targetting some of the carp

also, the painted and snapping turtles are starting to get really active in the area, so dont be suprised if you catch a few

Not too bad of a day today on the big pond. Even with yesterday's wind...there is always a calm spot somewhere on the lake. With yesterday's NW wind, the landing at the DNR is relatively calm for putting in...and the entire north side of the lake is protected by the bluffs and trees...makes for nice fishing and there are many many great spots along that north side. I checked the east side Reno landing yesterday and even with the NW winds it was relatively calm to put in...just a slight chop on the water. Reno also has high bluffs and trees to protect the entire north side from wind. On windy days...keep these two lakes in mind.

Today the wind is out of the south but not as high...Beach landing would be good as well as DNR landing...might be a day to try the south side hot spots. My favorites are Swenson Point and west using 200 series Reef Runners.

Walleyes are still shallow at night feeding on the lake shiners. Forget the beauty sleep and go fishing! Plenty of time to sleep when you are dead.

I got that nasty flu/cold crud so I have been laid up for a couple days. Hopefully I will shake it soon so I can get on with spring work.

Still selling more crappie minnows than anything. I am too sick to get out and try it myself but they must be catching something since they keep coming back.

Shiners are also the popular bait as usual at this time of year.

I have not kept up on the crappies. I would expect that they are in shallow pond spawning but not sure. At this time you just have to try several spots and options to see if you find anything. Try out from Torgy's and drift through the 9 to 13 FOW with jig and minnow, try the 4 to 6 FOW in the bay and even move in shallow to try those areas. Everyone has to do a little searching at this time of year.

Caught one 13 inch walleye off the dock last night when I got in from prescribed burning around 10:30 pm. Missed a couple as well. STill not feeling well so I headed home. I need the city to turn the dang lights on down there and/or a full moon to get that shore bite going. A lot of lake shiners skipping around so the food is there.

Looks to be a great weekend and finally low winds. Even with this high east wind, there is just a small chop out from the Glenwood Landing and the DNR landing...great to put a boat in. There is always a calm spot on the big pond!
