MONO Fishing line. I am sick of having to change my line multiple times per year, and still having memory and abrasion problems. I have gone 100% superline (powerpro), except on my stream trout rod, which I don't think I have any other options. If I am using green power pro on all my rigs, would it make sence to run a florocarbon leader? Are bass going to care that there is green line? For my heavy pike and musky I am not too concerned about line color, but for my all purpose set-ups I do wonder if I am going to be hurting my chances.

Man I love not having to change my superlines every season.

I take my spool off the reel. then I wind the line on with the help of a cordless drill. I'm convinced it is a big help because you can turn the reel spool parallel with the spool of line you're putting onto the reel. I don't get the line twist and usually it helps my line stay better longer.. It's put on like a bait caster sort of.. Then I usually only fill half the reel capacity unless I'm planning fish that might be stripping a lot of line.

I'm realizing this doesn't have much to do with what you wrote. But mono line seems to twist on a spinning reel so much I figured I would mention this because it helped me..

Some guy told me that WD40 on the spool helps get rid of memory. I have no idea if it helps or not. It does help keep that slime off your line that some lakes have though. Especially during the green water months

logan- WD40 does help with memory reduction, as well as masking human odor, WD40 is partially fish oil, which makes it natural.

before every trip i put some hot water in a cup and i put the spool in the water. let it soak for about 10 minutes, then take it out. the line is softer, and more managable, and most of the memory is GONE!

a flourocarbon leader will be great, and bass do care, unless you are fishing heavy vegetation, then it doesnt

I have used powerpro for years and I'm pretty sure fish can see it. ex- 3 years ago, mille lacs lake, silver flat. My pal and I get out there at 6:30 am and he gets around 8 fish throughout the day. At about 4:00 pm I got sick of no bites and thought I haved tried every trick under the sun. Tied on a four foot mono leader and 45 min later BAMM 26" walleye. Line or luck?

Now I only use it for bass and some trolling. The stuff is strong and works good for flippin under docks and lillies.

This year I also bought enough flouracarbon to try out on two poles. But at 17 bucks I will Not be changing my line and changing it often. SHEESH 17 bucks for line!!

I love the PowerPro, but it really depends on the lure you're using. I use a lot of baits that cause a "reaction strike". I don't think the the line makes so much of a difference with those. But I do throw Senkos and flukes on it.

I usually do the black permanent marker trick on it though: color the line a few feet every few feet. It breaks up any straight line you (or the bass) see in the water. A lot of times though, I just do the last 4-5'; especially if your braid is really lasting long and has started to turn that light gray color.

I never use a leader myself; but mostly because I'm not too confident tying braid to another line. It also feel like I'd be adding a place for my line to fail.

Fishcat, The instructions that come with powerpro line have a knot illustrated in there that I use. When spolling so it doesn't slip and for leaders. I have never broke this knot!!

Yeah, Sauzal, I keep one of those in my tackle bag even. But, like I said, it's mostly due to my knot trying skills. The Ol' Palomar is hard to mess up, but I've done it a few times. Lost a brand new, custom, buzzbait on the second cast last year even! I've since taken to keeping a little bottle of super glue in my bag now as well. But, I also do pretty good with no leader.
