haven't fished it yet but I know there's diving clubs that explore... I wouldn't wanna fish while they're diving.. I've heard rumors of 25+ pike so it sounds like long steel leader fishing amongst large logs etc

And so ya know.. (if ya don't got a trout stamp (I don't)) some of the mine lakes have been trout stocked..

got the trout stamp and have been catching a few trout. I hope to start fishing pike. I hear that sept, oct. are good months to get the pike. My Nephew works at the new Gander Mt. in Baxter, mn. and hopes to get more info on the monster pike.

From what I read from Google searches, the monster pike hide almost right IN the weed beds.. there's a diving group called the going under dive center from maple grove that has this picture

http://www.fishingmap.com/shop/paper-lake-maps/minnesota-lake-maps/crow-wing-county-minnesota-lakemaps-maps/crosby-ironton-mine-pits-lake-map.html

This is the link to buy the map for the mine pit fishing, depths etc on it for $3.50. I don't know if they charge s/h or anything I haven't bought a map from them b4 so I don't know... 25+ lb pike sounds like a lot of fun... hopefully the mine pits thing isn't super heavily fished where it the fish get spooked too easy. How big is the area?

Very interesting. I used to fish for trout up in that area. How in the heck did pike get in there?

Not sure how they got in there, but they're definately in there. A kid I know caught one up in the pits about 3 weeks ago, a shade over 22 pounds.

Hey KingTut,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Sounds like some monster pike. A 22 lb. would be fun to catch.

I recieved information from the DNR that certain lakes are designated trout stearms and some are not. The area isn't that large but there are lots of pit lakes. You can legally only use live bait (minnows) in the waters that are not designated. Thank you sportsnut for the information. Not sure if the pike were intruduced or how they got there. List of designated trout streams(pits): Pennington, Mahnomen #1,#2,#3, Porstmouth,Alstead, Arco, Hunington, section six, Sagamore, Manuel, North Yawkey, Snowshoe and Mallen. You must use artificals on these waters. Non designated pits where you CAN use suckers or shiners include: Rowe, Carlson, Virginia, Maroco, Louise, Magan, Hopkins, Joan, Keeler, and Armour #2.
