We now have open water here on upper red lake. I will be taking the boat out "Imagine That" at some time in the next week trying to track down a crappie or two. Then the big weekend of opener is right around the corner. This year they have upped the limit to 4 walleyes under 17.Then June 15th we will be able to keep walleye under 20 inches.
I have a couple of deals I'm offering this year. Free lodging on guided trips in our 20 foot Lund tyee. I'm also offering a midweek deal stay two nights and get the third night free.Sunday through thursday. We do have a cabin still open the last weekend of May . We also have a cabin open every weekend through June except june 5th.
Once I start fishing I will be giving updates of how the bite is going. We have a full house for opener with my brother making his second opener all the way from chicago.

i made my first fishing trip out on the lake yesterday as I took Jim,Stenny and Craig crappie fishing. We managed to find 3 crappies in 3 different spots and may of missed a couple. The walleyes were a pest and we had to move from the first spot as they would not leave are minnows alone. We were able to fish about 4 hours before a rain storm pushed us off the lake. I will have a report from opener but I can almost gaurantee know one will be skunked.

When the weather cooperates the fishing has still been real good.Last week for opener the river fishing was nothing short of incredible. a week later and you have to work for them in the river. The lake is going strong as We had a full house this weekend and everyone went home with there limits. The boats are starting to spred out more on the lake as the fish disapate but we saw fishermen setting the hook all over the place yestareday. Most are fishing the last sand bar where the water goes from 3 to 5 feet. We caught fish yesterday as shallow as 3.5 feet and as deep as 6 with 5 being the magic depth.
As thw water warms up again we should see a few crappie move back into the shalllow water of the north shore. Jonny and Jake got permission to fish over in Hudecs harbor saturday and managed to catch 9 elusive upper red lake crappies.

We had a few fishermen this week. Larry and his crew of 5 got out on the lake all 4 days they were here. Wednesday they found a spot and anchored where they procceded to catch welll over 100 walleyes. Shawn caught a 38 inch pike his personnel best and Tom landed into a dandy that got away. Three older gentleman needed a warm place to stay tuesday night as one of them had fallen out of the boat. Something to keep in mind he had back splases on his boat and with all his close on he had a heck of a time getting back in the boat. He figures he would of never got back in the boat by himself. They did manage to find 7 of the elusive upper red lake crappies but wednesday they went to a new area and got skunked. We have a cabin open next weekend and cabin open the rest of the summer. As the water warms I expect to see some of our famous elusive upper red lake crappies caught in the next 3 weeks. By mid June they will have dissappeared until next winter

The fishing has still been above average. Most are still fishing the last break line with the north shore getting little pressure. All our guest over the weekend were able to have fresh fish frys and take a few home. A few crappies have also been caught. The wife Kellie and I hope to get out on a fishing date tomorrow evning as she sure wants to catch a crappie or two.

Yesterday the weather was just to cold for Kellie,With a light rain and temps in the 40s I decoded I needed my fishing fix so I headed out around 3:30. The first spot I headed to was an area that I like to fish and tagged into a 26 1/2 inch waleye two years ago. I wanted to bobber fish as there was little wind and I needed to tend to some other fishing rods. It wasn't 10 minutes and I had my first fish on. As I set the hook I thought sweet this is a nice one. Rats it was a sheephead put up a dandy fight though. the next fish came just a few minutes later and was a smaller sheephead. Two for two was enough for me and I headed to a different area although I will be back as it is a fishy area.
Looking for my second spot I started by trolling a inline spinner. I started out a little deeper looking for a few rocks, when I hit 7.5 feet I had a nice fish on. Wow a beautiful 18 1/2 walleye. It was Fat and chunky. As I admired it I thought boy this one fish would feed Kellie and I. And man would a stringer of these make a nice picture. I then decided with little wind I would bobber fish the same spot. It was not long and I set the hook on a fiesty fish. I figured it may be a pike but up came a 24 inch walleye. My third fish was another 18 1/2 inch walleye that was skinnier then a toothpick? Wow what a difference compared to the other one. My forth and final fish was another chunky walleye at 18 inches. All in all pretty good fishing even though I did not get any keepers.
