Thats pretty cool. I'll have to snap a few pictures of these Mississippi River Bowfins. They seem to be extra NEON Green for some reason and its the whole bottom of the fish.

Can you eat them or are they to bony?

Yeah I was wondering if you were keeping any of these as well. Some of the pictures look that way. I've never heard of anyone eating bowfin. How do they taste?

Nice pictures by the way.

Hey Jake,

I gotta say those are some pretty sweet catches you have there. It looks like several of your pics were taken on just a little stream. Are you catching some of them in a stream that small? I often find lots of fish in little creeks or streams in summer where you have a very limited number of deeper holes. The fish will tend to congregate up in those few holes and may be there in masses. However, they rarely see any pressure because no one would believe that there are any areas worth fishing in a stream that small. Are you finding them in similar spots to that as well as larger waters?

Again, nice pics Jake.

Good Fishing To Ya,

they were all released, they can breath out of the water, (often you can see them come to the surface and take a breath of air.) one did die on me, and i cut off the head, and boiled it, so all the meat fell off.
and i filleted her.

look her for some good bowfin recipies

also a bowfins eggs are sometimes used as a caviar substitute, (same texture and taste)

fisher, that is the main bowfin spawning stream in the lake, in alot of the pictures you can see my house in the background.

i do find them around lily pad masses and almost any crappie/ bluegill spawning site. sunfish honey combs are one of my top spots for big spring bowfin
