first.. don't bring any tackle you wouldn't mind losing.. but I'm sure you knew that.. |
How shallow? water clarity? Speed of water? I did a lot of shallow river fishing myself today St. Louis River smallies and rock bass. This area I fished is a smallmouth heaven for me until they close the last dam. In Cloquet b4 you head towards Scanlon. About a 1/2 mile walk over old dams or whatever they'd be called. Once they close the dam it becomes a hot northern pike area(the the larger bass are on top of the dam.. I know... different bass but it turns into a nice spot.)
I fish with skitter pops (my next thread.. second picture)in the pools of the river where its' calm.. where the water's moving fast people here are throwing non weighted hooks with leeches on them and they're really doing well that way. I didn't have any.. but Gulp sinking worms hooked texas style/weedless seem to work good also.. dragging them along the bottom as long as you can tell when its' a fish and not a tree or rock.
Even a BAD day of fishing is better than a good day of work; paydays excluded!
