Ice was off Waska last Saturday and several boats out...most are using the DNR landing.

Was out last night and just had a hay day with the crappies. Threw some back but most were in the 10 to 11 inch range with about 3 that were 12+. Out of the 3 12+, two were males and only 1 female. Out of all of them, only about 4 or 5 were female. 3 of us kept a limit and headed in with about an hour of light still available. Most people were fishing by Torgy's bridge but we headed out...and I think we caught just as many fish or more. We tried in shallow to start and got nothing...so we moved out and really got into them. I heard the Starbuck Marina was turning out fish as well.

PS...if you are looking for food plot seed, native grass seed, trees, feeders, etc. for your spring projects...check out our Habitat Outlet Store on-line at www.HabitatNOW.com. We also have a FREE Property Review and Assessment service.

Hey Fish On, good to hear from you, I was just thinking about you yesterday.I figured you were kind of busy with the business and all.So do you think it,s worth a trip up there or will it get better? This weekend sounds pretty crappy. Is the shore fishing pretty good around there? They are biting pretty good down here but road trips for nice panfish are always a good time. Thanks for the report.

Weekend weather report for around here is 30 to 50% chance of rain...but the winds are out of the north. Torgy's Bay and Starbuck Marina will be protected by the winds so that should be fine. It is the south winds that make it hard to cast from shore.

A lot of shoreline along Torgy's Bay (can get a good lunch/super at Torgy's as well). Starbuck Marina also has a lot of room to fish from shore.

Crappies are biting really well at both ends of the lake and should only get better with the temps going up. There is some cool weather in the extended forcast which might slow them down some. We probably caught 50 or more crappies in an hour and half...missed a lot of them but it was my first time open water fishing. Have to change gears from jiggle stick and small bobber to long line! smile smiley

I think it is worth the drive but then I am a little spoiled with the lake right here. Stop in and I can give you some spots and what we are using to catch'em.

It's not the store that I am busy with...it is the PLM stuff. We are in the fields now getting site prep done for native grass planting, food plots, trees, etc. as well as getting burn plans and permits lined up for the prescribed burning. Busy busy.

I just got the boat out last night to get it ready and hit the lake for awhile. I guess I am fishing the Clearwater crappie tournament on May 2nd so my partner took my boat back with him to get it cleaned up and do some pre-fishing. I just have to show up and catch the fish I guess. smile smiley I am not the greatest crappie fisherman but I can hold my own...out fished him last night so hopefully that will continue.

Since my boat is gone, I probably won't be going out again until I get it back...unless my other fishing buddy in Glenwood gets his boat out of the garage and takes me along. He might have to if he wants to know where I was fishing! smile smiley

Only time I "might" be able to get away would be 6 or 6:30 Saturday or Sunday night...but that is iffy. Thanks for the offer though and we will get out sometime if this time doesn't work.

Fish On!...and on...and on...and on!

Really some nice bass caught over the weekend...of course while trying to catch walleyes. It's the "deer hunt see pheasants...pheasant hunt see deer" analogy.

Got into some great smallies from Peter's to Gandrud Beach. Early morning I think they would hit surface lures or shallow cranks in 3 to 7 fow.

Otherwise...all the weed lines around the lake in 10 to 5 fow are great options as well.

Got into a nice crappie bite on Thursday between the beach and Halvorson Pt. Actually stopped pre-fishing for walleyes and started jigging for crappies! It was a blast. Again around that 13 to 15 fow.

Got into some huge pike as well...mostly around Peter's and to Gandrud Beach. Just in the past month I have caught a 29, 34 and another one that was 10 lbs. and must have been upper 30s to maybe even 40. I wonder what some big surface lures would do in the morning there?

Big draw is still the sunny bite with a consistent bite of 8 to 10 ouncers. Most are using panfish leaches and even picking up a walleye or two along the way.
