So I have an ultra light spinning set-up that I plan to use for stream trout fishing this spring. It is a cabelas ultralight rod, and about 6 feet long. I am using stren smooth cast 4 pound test. It doesn't feel like it is casting up to my expectations. I find myself constantly, it seems, trying to undo line loops and tangles. Is 4 pound smooth cast the wrong line?
Have had the same issues and these are a few tricks I use to prevent this. #1 close the bail by hand not by turning the handle. #2 if using small spinners I put a small barrel swivel 2 or 3 feet ahead of the spinner. #3 Try to avoid casting into the wind. #4 when I start to get twist I hook on a heavy float and cast out as far as I can and then reel in with the extra weight. And one other thing I have found is never reel when the drag is letting out line. All of these things will help your issue not sure why some of them work but they do. Hope this helps a little.
