Welcome to the site FlyFisherman,

Where will you be coming from? The fishing in Minnesota can be amazing. Of course like anywhere it will depend on time of year, target species and your method of fishing but there is alittle bit of everything to satisfy the fisherman needs.

Welcome FlyFisherman!

where are you from? I just moved back to MN from MI, where I went to college and worked for the past 8 years. I did a ton of fly fishing around the Mt. Pleasant area. I also have done some fly fishing in Montana, near Bozeman and Missoula, which was pretty awesome. What are you looking to catch? If you're looking for pure fishing excitment and are trying to catch walleye, perch, small mouth bass, northern pike, sturgeon, musky, lake trout or crappie, I would recommend Lake of the Woods, not just because I'm a GM of a resort on the Lake, but I've fished plenty of lakes in MN and nothing compares to Lake of the Woods. If you're looking for a scenic trip and want to fish a little harder, I would recommend Rainy Lake. It's beautiful, but you really have to fish hard to catch the fish.

Hope I helped you out a little.

Welcome to MFP FlyFisherman. When are you planning to take this trip? There are so many lakes and so many different types of lakes that if you were to narrow down what you were looking for I along with alot of us would be able to put you on some good fishing. If you have no agenda and are coming here to fish only Lake of the woods is probably the best.Wigwam Fisherman would be a good guy to talk to.If you've never been here and would like to fish some of the most beautiful country you've ever seen we have that to.Northshorechef lives in Grand Marais which is one of the starting points to true solitude. We look forward to helping a new member.Never know, Texas has those 20lb bass and 5lb crappies right! Winter gets pretty long up here. smile smiley
