Just got back from the Brule. We fished all of Saturday. The weather was awesome and the river was beautiful as always. I brought some friends along who don't get to fish the rivers or streams very much and they loved it. We had a blast... even though we got skunked. The water was pretty high and I'm not sure many fish were moving upstream yet..A lot of people told me that they heard someone else had been catching fish. None of those people had caught any for themselves though. I think it's a little early still.
It's still the special season so you can't fish south of HWY 2. It's also artificial bait only right now.. The lakes throughout Douglas county still had some ice. but the edges were mostly open and lots of the smaller lakes were open too.
I couldn't find it either but this link has a few reports. Brule reports
The one from 4/16 says the ice is still around the mouth. I can attest to that because when I was there on the 12th the ice was still floatin around the mouth. But temps have been warm since then and I know it hit 70 the other day. I would think it's getting close.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
