Hello my fishing pals,
Over the years I have developed two groups of fishing buddies. The bass fishing guys and the northern pike/musky guys.( no offense intended for my brothres and sisters who chase walleye, just not my cup 'o tea.)
I love them both and pursue either with a fever. And I love the panfish. Planning on making a few casts for crappie before work tomorrow. But the explosive bass and the always aggressive northerns are my passion. So, lets hear it guys and gals, what do you love more and why.

Thats a tough one. Neither seem particularily difficult to find or catch, both fight pretty well...

I think for me pike might edge out bass. Mainly becuase of their potential size and they offer a tastier fillet.

The advantage of bass is they don't have the slime and they are the easiest fish in the world to handle. You don't have to worry about teeth and even a deep hook set is relatively easy to get out since their mouths are so big you can just reach right in and get the hook.

However if I'm fishing for walleye I don't want to see either of these buggers. When walleye fishing I won't even let the pike into the boat. I have to be in just the right mood to be willing to deal with those slimey toothy devils.

That is a good question, I'm a Trout guy, most of the time I fish
with a Fly Rod, I have come across some Smallies and that was big
time fun!! we really don't have any Largemouth in this neck of the woods, I would like to try for some Northerns this year with the fly rod, They both have quilities that you would look for, but they both
fall into the Catch & Release catagory for me, so it's all about fun
not counting.

BASS! I will never tire of learning how to trick those green buggers and, oh, the thrill of the fight when I do!

Gotta go with the Bass, there's nothin' like pullin' out a fat hog from the flooded timber.

I've always been a Pike guy since I was a little kid growing up near the Minnehaha Creek. Just something about a fish that could take your fingers off to get even with ya for hookin' em, made it seem more like a fair fight. But lately starting to get more interested in Bass and the many different ways to catch them. Looking forward to trying out catching them on the fly rod I just got. I just hope I dont hook myself first. laugh smiley

If I could pick one scenario for fishing, it would be on a calm lake with some top water poppers. Twitching, Jigging, and retrieving those things and then watching them get hammered on by a nearby Largemouth is my favorite. Especially when you place the 'perfect' cast and treat it as an art. I can't wait for my first top water bucketmouth of 2009!!!!! smile smiley smile smiley smile smiley

This was my favorite top water strike or I should say strike(s). I placed my favorite Rebel popper right on the outside of some lilly pads in about 6-7 feet of water, gave it a couple of twitches, and then.....a HUGE explosion. Both Largemouth hit the popper at the same time!! They both put up quite the fight too.
