Took my boat out on Saturday for the first time this season on the St Croiz looking for White Bass. Water temp was at 38 degrees and was real high too. There is a no wake zone sign posted by the launch for the entire St Croix river. No luck finding any fish or catching anything for the most part. It was nice taking the boat out though. Water temp seems to be warmer by the power plant though, almost 45 degrees right around that area.
I am antsy to get out there on Friday. Have you gone out there this time of year much in the past? I have never fished that area, and I am curious if you think the warm up over the next few days will make a difference. What baits were you trying for the white bass?
I normally fish from Hudson to the end of the railroad tracks. Mostly around this time of year, White Bass would already be hitting but with the cold weather and the water temp still being low, there's not too much to look forward too until the water temp hits hit 40s'. Just remember one thing though, St Croix is at NO WAKE right now so it may take you a while to move from place to place. I'll probably be going out on Saturday too. Just really can't wait until the water temps go up.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
