So If I was to say I was interested in learning how to net my own sucker minnows to save money, would you think me crazy. If this is something that is doable hos do I start down the path. I have no idea if expensive equipment is required or if it is even legal. I just know bait is really expensive these days.

i dont think it a bad idea but it depends how far you have to trap them. its cost money to drive back and forth and if theres no minnows in the trap well you then you were better off buying them.{just my thoughts}

I have done this in the past with a trap I picked up at wal-mart for about 7 bucks. Little to show for my effort and the few I did get were hard to keep alive. Got a big box trap like the bait guys use this fall thinking it was the little trap and again little to show in the way of shinners and most of them that I did get went belly up the first day. So much for my big money saving dream mad smiley Any way did make a few bucks re-selling the big trap smile smiley Also it is a lot of work baiting and checking trap everyday. If you try it hope you have better luck.

From my experience catching shiners or suckers is a day to day venture. You hope to just catch enough to use for that day of fishing since keeping them alive isn't all that easy.

I have had a little success keeping suckers alive after buying them from a bait shop. It involved setting up an aquarium in the garage with an oxygen pump and filter. Not sure if it was really worth the hastle in the end.
