A couple of my best buds decided to hop in the car an drive down to Florida. They brought beer, cloths and fishing gear. Neither of them have fished in the ocean but they have been hitting some of the peers and tossing raps in hopes of getting lucky.
I just got these pics text messaged to me on my phone.
I guess the longer skinny fish is a lightning welt.. I have no idea what that striped one is but I hope it's OK to eat because I know these guys will probably eat it.
I can't tell what the long one is, but I've never heard of a lightning welt.
The striped fish is a sheepshead. They are not related to the freshwater sheephead (drum) and they are good to eat. They are a common catch from shore. The size limit is 12 inches and the bag limit is 15 per day.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
