Hi there, I am new to here, the web site. I am wondering if anyone here is from Duluth and if so what lakes do you fish on? I am headed up there this weekend for a fishing contest on Fish lake. Anyone out there know of this? What can you tell me about it?

Welcome to the site.

I do not live in duluth but I have fished on fish lake numerous times over the last 10 years.

I do not know anything about the contest, what will you be fishing for?

Are you limited to where you can go? I haven't fished it much in the last several winters so I am not up on the hot bites but from what I have heard there hasn't been a hot bite on the lake for much of the winter.

Let me know what you are fishing for and I can see if I can offer some suggestions.

Hi, Nofishfisherman
I was born and rasied in Duluth, moved to the Twin Cites back in 1989. I haven't fished that lake since I was real little. I am unclear what fish are in the lake or what we will be required to fish for at the contest. I did a contest 2 weeks ago in Duluth on Pike Lake and we could fish for anything. It is more of a fund rasier so I am sure there is no regulation on the species of fish. I was just wondering, any edge is good...

Well, fish lake has pretty much everything in it and in pretty good numbers. Its one of the better multi species lakes in the duluth area in my opinion.

I think this time of year your best best will be for crappie, gills, and perch, perhaps a pike on the side. All species exist in good quanity and quality. The fishing has dropped off a little in the last 2 years but its still goo.

There are several community spots on the lake that will be pretty evident. I've heard its been real crowded on the lake this year so you'll want to get away from the crowds. The lake should be pretty easy to travel with most of the snow melted so getting to new spots should be easy enough.

To be honest I have not fished the lake this time of year in a very long time so I can't really get you on hot spots. Some of the spots I know of may also be already over run with houses as well.

If you want to shoot me an email I can send you a map of the lake with some early ice spots marked on it. I can also try to point you into some new spots that I would try out. My email address is in my profile.

Hey FisherGurl70,

I also grew up in Duluth... left in 1983 and lived around the country and now reside in the Metro.

Small world, eh?

Nofishfisherman,
Thanks for the update. Although it is a contest, they have a area roped off so you stay with in the ropes. If it is anything like the others I have been to you are all in the same area with the hole like 7-8 ft apart.

I did pull up a map of the lake, but I am unsure where they are having it on there. It will be by a boat launch I am sure. I really don't know much about this one, I over heard another person talking about it at the last contest and had my Farther go ask at the bait store up there, and they were selling the tickets, so I told him to grab me some...........LOL

Thanks for the help. I sure hope it warms up some, they don't allow houses, just wind breakers. Oh the crazy things we do in Minnesota!
