I was feelin good that no one had tried to break in to my ice shack on coon lake... Well, I just went out today and someone busted the lock off and stole alot of the stuff I keep out there.. I wish I had the money to replace it this winter but I don't so I'll probably not be fishing till spring.

They made off with my poles and tackle.. Now I feel like an idiot for thinking people were more trustworthy than they are. I guess I learned a good $300 lesson.

I haven't reported it,
don't know that it would do any good..

But if anyone knows someone bragging about there new poles and vexilar tackle box full of tackle.. let me know who they are and I'll take care of it.

thanks

Sorry to hear about that, Logan. A buddy of mine has a house out on #3 of Forest Lake and someone came by a couple of nights ago and busted out the windows in a bunch of the houses in the area. They didn't steal anything, just damaged stuff. My buddy was lucky... he has only a very small window in his house. A family member right next to him got a big picture window punched out.

A bunch of mean paople out there, if you ask me...

A bunch of broken windows w/nothing missing is probably a bunch of kids out causing trouble. Stuff actually being stolen is the work of a thief who is probably some sort of professional. He/she probably staked out and scoped your house and figured a time when you wouldn't be there. If I were you and you have the time, I'd file a police report and then check pawn shops in the area. If you can prove its yours, you might get lucky. I know some people keep all receipts, burn their names into rod handles, etc. to prevent it from happening to them.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of desperate people out there right now and I have a bad feeling that crimes like this will only increase for the next year or so. You can't be too viligant no matter where you are.

It's not the worse thing that could happen..I've had time to chill now. but I talked to the DNR and he said over half the people he talked to on the lake had been broken into..
One guys shack had barred windows and his latching system included 3/4 inch bolts through thick steel plate. I guess it just made them want to get in more cuz they managed too.

So if you're thinking it'll be OK to leave something at the shack. you might want to border on the side of caution and bring it home anyway.

Sorry to hear about your loss....what i do to prevent that is ALWAYS bring my stuff home and don't even lock the door....seems to have worked as no damage has been done.I also leave a message on the wall that if they want to fish in it that's ok just take your trash with you and have never had any trouble
