I went up and fished out of Sportsman's Lodge in Baudette. we were up there from the 16th thru the 18th. We ended up bringing home 5 walleyes, 14 sauger, 1 saugeye, 2 white fish, 4 eel pout. it was slow fishing, but when they hit they hit! not so many tiny sauger, but the walleyes just didn't want to bite. we only got 5 total, the largest was 17 inches. plenty to come home and eat for the 3 of us.
one of the eel pout went 30 inches, and one of the white fish was 28 inches long, and had a pretty thick back, the resort people claim they haven't seen a whitefish that large in a decade, so that was fun... had a good wrestling match with it when it came through the ice.
plenty of solid ice, great resort/lodge to go out of. had fun even though the fish didn't cooperate fully with us.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
